Meaning & Purpose
- I will be producing a print advertisement for Nike trainers and sports equipment. Advertising is an essential factor in determining the success of both businesses and their products. It is a way in which firms make the public aware of their product and additionally convincing them to purchase it. Listed below are various factors as to why advertising is important to both customers and businesses, sourced from: http://www.managementstudyguide.com/objectives-importance-of-advertising.htm
- Advertising helps increasing sales
- Advertising helps producers or the companies to know their competitors and plan accordingly to meet up the level of competition.
- If any company wants to introduce or launch a new product in the market, advertising will make a ground for the product. Advertising helps making people aware of the new product so that the consumers come and try the product.
- Advertising helps creating goodwill for the company and gains customer loyalty after reaching a mature age.
- The demand for the product keeps on coming with the help of advertising and demand and supply become a never ending process.
Customers would be unaware of a vast range of products and businesses if there was no advertising on various types of media such as radio or television.
For every advertisement produced and distributed around the world, each company or business will ensure there is consistency within the published media products. I have thoroughly researched Nike advertisements in addition to various other sporting brands and their promotional content. The ideas I have will maintain brand parity to many of Nike's previous advertising campaigns. The adverts usually contain fast pace music and video footage, with short clips cut together with continuity editing to create a match on action. Additionally, in many cases there seems to be colour correction or colour grading in order to create a more atmospheric final production. Finally the characters within the advertisements will always be wearing NIKE products head to toe, with product placement being a key factor to include within the film.

Below shows a variety of images of a similar theme that I am likely to use in my final media product.
This image is ideal for a billboard presentation. Therefore I aim to replicate this theme with my own shoot. The landscape shot is essential for a large billboard, as well as the inclusion of a logo
(NIKE) and potentially a slogan. The idea of a natural running image appeal to me, instantly creating a relatable scene for the target audience. Furthermore the shall depth of field gives an interesting affect, keeping models in focus, but blurred lighting creates an atmosphere.
As well as this the actor should be 'head to toe' in 'Nike' sporting attire, this is product placement and vital when advertising, informing the audience that additional products are available, as well as just trainers. Street shots again give a natural image, and create an enticing scene which should work well in both film and still photography. The model or actor should look as though they have worked hard, but still photogenic and appealing to audiences.
In contrast to other images, including a black and white shot may be affective. This shot focuses solely on the running and trainers. The bold white text gives another contrast to the image, which instantly creates a more enticing image to consumers and I will definitely use this for some of my final products. I also believe a plain background with the runner in the close foreground is an effectual decision.
The image is wide angled, but only reveals a small section of the scene (open shot). The slight blur in the product could have a hidden meaning - (e.g makes you go faster etc). The slogan is inspirational and could be an effective way of convincing someone the buy the product.
The two images (above and below) and very similar and consistent for the advertisement of Lucozade Sport. Both include the same bold slogan, which is something I am looking to include in my images to give consistency as well as good advertising. Furthermore they include celebrity endorsement to emphasise the quality of their product, meaning consumers are more likely to purchase the item if their idol or a top sportsperson uses it. I unfortunately do not have the budget to use a celebrity endorsement, however the actor used in my advertisement will be of high fitness and shown to be idolised and inspirational.
Mood Board
Font Sheet
Below shows the potential fonts that will be used for my final products, most are simple but I have chosen these in particular because I believe if applied correctly they should be effective in drawing in audiences, along with the product and image itself.
Colour Sheet - Grey
The majority of my images will have a large element of grey in. This will most likely be the background as I can then create a contrast with the model/actor within the final image, making it stand out more as well as creating an atmosphere.
Bold white text to contrast with dark colours
Sketches for media product ideas
The image design above is likely to be used as one of my final media prints. I aim to create a captivating still shot that simply advertises the final product. A shallow depth of field is essential to create the enticing image, perhaps the use of lighting (out of focus) will create a more professional looking photograph.
This image gives a more overall look of the product, as well as it being used in a real life situation. I feel it is appropriate to include an image of this type, keeping an open shot of the product, however revealing slightly more than the trainer alone. It is essential to include the brand's logo and slogan, as these alone will improve the advertising power for the final image.
This image gives a more general advertisement of the product. It will include NIKE running attire as well as the advertised trainers. The picture will be taken along a street and the model will be running whilst the image is shot to create an effective true life image. It is likely to be used on a billboard due to the wide angled framing.

Key Times for Still Image Shoot
The production schedule shown below accounted for both filming and photographic shoots. When arriving in London, every external (EXT) scene involved filming in addition to still images being taken, in order to diversify the final products and use clips from both shoots. This enabled me to gain a large quantity of images throughout the day in which I could use for the final product, as well as the studio shoot which would take place a week after the London shoot.
Launch Dates
The photographic shoot is set to be released for NIKE on 30th May 2016. This will be launched within a new advertising campaign titled 'Why Run?', where the photographic images will be promoted on billboards, magazine covers and online, in addition to a promotional advertisement video launched on the 7th June, coinciding with the photographic shoot's theme.
